Hair Loss - male and female pattern baldness

There are a variety of reasons for hair loss, all relate to specific reactions in your body.

For those individuals that are noticing pattern baldness appearing in their hair, it is the time to take action. In many cases there is little that can be done. Often, there is not a cure but it is possible in some cases to slow down the hair loss or even prevent it from getting worse in some circumstances. For this to happen, action should be taken as soon as possible.  Yet, it is also important to realize that all individuals will naturally lose hair.  The hair will grow again. Those that notice thinning need to pay particular attention to the condition.

There are two types of pattern baldness :

The most common is male pattern baldness.  In fact, up to 66% of all adult males will experience this at some point in their adult life.  Generally, it is noticeable as the hair line of the individual begins to recede from the lateral sides of the forehead.  This is called a receding hairline or a receding brow. For some, a patch of hair on the top of the head may also thin.  The medical term for this condition is androgenic alopecia.  This happens when something called 5 alpha reductase occurs.  This is a condition in which the enzymes that convert the hormone testosterone inhibits the growth of hair.  This can happen as soon as puberty but often happens later in life.  It is a hereditary condition in most cases.

If you are a male wanting to take care of your hair, then knowing about male pattern baldness and the reasons why it may occur can help you in finding the right solution to retaining a full head of hair. If you are beginning to experience male pattern baldness, then you can compare your particular condition to other similar conditions. This will then assist you in finding a possible solution.

Male pattern baldness is most often attributed to genetics

These may result from either the male or female genes that are passed down through your family. Quite often genetics and baldness are referred to as DHT. With this gene, there will be particular nutrients produced in your hair that will react with chemicals and cause you to go bald as you age. The older you get, the more these will react with each other and cause baldness or hair thinning and hair loss.

Another factor that is related to male pattern baldness is hormones

This is especially apparent from the changes in testosterone as you get older. This will begin to react with the scalp area and the nutrients that are in the hair, especially the enzymes that are produced. These enzymes are known to help the hair grow; however when these interact with the testosterone and hormones, they cancel each other out and cause a hair follicle reaction. This will then lead to thinning and hair loss as the enzymes and hormones produce a chemical that is not healthy for the hair.

If you are losing your hair at a rapid rate then you will need to check with a health care provider. There are also a variety of diseases that relate to hair loss and may give the appearance of male pattern baldness. With this type of baldness, you may find that your hair is coming out in clumps. This is not considered to be male pattern baldness and should be addressed as quickly as possible.

If you are experiencing male pattern baldness, you can still find a variety of treatments that may prevent further thinning and hair loss. By understanding why this happens, as well as knowing how you can prevent it, you will be able to give identify the correct treatment. This will then allow your hair to stay healthier and thicker as you age. Male pattern baldness is known as a common genetic and hormonal problem among many, and there are always ways for you to help in treating the problem.

Female pattern baldness is the other type of hair loss

In this condition, the midline parting of the hair begins to broaden as the hair thins.  It is thought to happen when the body begins to stop making enough estrogen.  This condition is much less common and generally happens later in life, after menopause, but can happen earlier on occasion.

Hair loss, no matter who has it and where it happens can be a very emotional occurrence.  Individuals must not only deal with their physical appearance but will need to deal with their mental and emotional state of mind. In some cases, individuals will be okay with their hair loss.  For others, though, they will want to seek out the help of professionals who can help them resolve these conditions.  There can be help for these conditions, especially when medications can help regulate the hormones within the body.  Talking to your doctor right away can help you to get the treatment you need.
